First thing you notice is the warnings which tell you that you must change the belts and filters every two months (they do include an extra belt). Second it is noisy as all hell. Third it is not a lightweight as I thought -- the 25' cord must weigh 5 lbs alone. Having said all that it does pick up well and the little upholstery brush works well too. What appealed to me was the HEPA filter and that it uses 33% less energy. I got mine NEW from Wal-Mart for around $50. At first, it worked amazingly well. I was really surprised that it was cheap AND how well it worked. I liked how you could wash out the filter and re-use it. And I enjoyed having a few extra attachments, not that I would use them, but they were nice to have just in case I needed them.Shortly after moving, we lost the filter and I bought a replacement one for $10. Cheap replacement parts are nice too. Now, I can't figure out why, but it doesn't suck. I thought I was trying to get it to pick up things that were too large, but I ran it over a staple on my carpet a couple times, and it just moved it around. The vacuum does not come with two of the filters that are necessary for its use. This is made clear in the instruction manual that comes with the vacuum. We did not read the instructions right away and had problems with the vacuum not working properly (blowing dirt everywhere and not moving smoothly). Once we bought the filters we found this to be an exceptional vacuum. Once the filters are installed properly and the vacuum is getting the proper suction it moves more smoothly and we haven't had any problems with it since. Our small boys (from ages 2-5) are even able to vacuum their own room with it. It is very easy to clean and very easy to clean with.We have 4 small boys and even with all the mess created by them, it still picks up even the finest dust wonderfully. My husband and I even use it when cutting the boys hair. We just got an electric razor with guides and we are able to cut hair in our kitchen with very little mess.
